Steven Weinberg on Religion

I have always thought of religion as being a moral lever: it can make good people behave better and bad people behave worse. Since I read this Steven Weinberg quote, I wonder if he has it right instead:

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Mt Hamilton Ride
